CROSS LEARNING MEETING BETWEEN AMECEA AND IMBISA The Justice and Peace Desk of AMECEA Region organized a two-day Cross Learning meeting between AMECEA and IMBISA that took place in Nairobi at Emmaus Centre from 2nd -3rd March 2010. According to Rev. Fr. Jude Waweru, the AMECEA Justice and Peace Coordinator, the meeting aimed at re-energizing the advocacy efforts of these two regions, sharing of activities for best practices, compare various roles taken by the Church from these two regions, share plans for the implementation of the synod with special focus on governance; strengthen their ties and networking within the regions in the work of Justice and Peace and identify possible activities that can be done together. Fr. Waweru said that for the last two years, the Justice and Peace Desk has partnered with CAFOD East Africa on ABG (Action for Good Governance) programme which advocates for good governance and from this cooperation the idea of having an inter-regional cross-learning meeting emerged. He further said Political governance is still a major challenge in African countries and that it is blamed to be the cause of instability in these countries. “That is why the Church has endeavored to intervene for good governance at various levels within its structures,” he said. The participants to the meeting were Regional Bishop Chairs of Justice and Peace, Regional Secretaries General, Regional Justice and Peace Coordinators, some governance programme representation, Parliamentarian Liaison Officers from IMBISA and AMECEA region and head of departments of AMECEA Secretariat. Others were ABD partners: Justice and Peace Commission from Kenya Episcopal Conference, Kenya Debt Relief Network (KENDREN), Hakimani and Radio Waumini. Also in the list of participants was Centre for Social Justice and Ethics of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA). |
